Ranked among the fastest growing economies in the world, India would be facing increase demand for electricity in the coming future. Solar Power serves as the perfect catalyst to cater the ever increasing demand for electricity in the coming future. The Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission (JNSM) was launched on 11th January 2011 by then Prime minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, with a prime objective to make India a global leader in solar power generation, to reduce the cost of electricity and make optimal use of the abundant availability of sun light in India. The JNSM has set an ambitious target of achieving 20 Giga-watt peak of On-grid solar projects by the year 2022 which was further escalated to a target of 100 gWp by the current prime minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi. The JNSM aims at reducing cost of solar power generation in the country through long term policies, large scale deployment goal, increased R & D and domestic production of critical raw materials, components and products.
